De castle is in excellent
condition. The construction of Castelo
do Moinho, on the top of a hill with 180 degree sea-view between Faro
and Loule, started in 1972 and was interrupted for 4 years following the
Portuguese revolution. Building has been resumed and it has not stopped
since.
Castelo do Moinho
differentiates itself from ancient one-block castles by the concept of
the lay-out of the facilities which allows total privacy in each
self-contained accommodation. It is also distant from the common
concept consisting in putting in as many bedrooms as possible in a given
area. It has been designed with very generous amenities.
Castelo do Moinho is an
original blend of fortress and palace. From outside we see the imposing
70 meter long stone facade with turrets and crenellations which reminds on
of the middle ages and gives quite a distinctive

and peaceful alternation of yellow and pink or ochre hand-made bricks,
terraces, suspended garden, colonnades and hand-painted tiles which make
the visitor feel like being in a world of its own; the possession of
which today doubtless is a privilege. This feeling is enhanced by the
fact that Castelo do Molino is a unique asset being the sole castle in
the Algarve.
The ageless Moorish style if
this work is a piece of art which needed 18 years of stone dressing and
carpentry craftsmanship.
About technique: reliable
and well conceived installations are a prime must in any good quality
construction, but when reaching this size, domestic standards must be
replaced by an industrial concept with easy access to plumbing ( soft
water circuit, hard water circuit, irrigation circuit, pool pipes,
sewer, rain water collector), to cables ( electricity, satellite TV,
telephone central with 10 lines), and to machines ( pumps, heating,
air-conditioning, water softener, central vacuum cleaners, own
bore-hole, central sewer, automatic irrigation).
Another very important
consideration: all different accommodations are individually powered
which reduces running costs to effective occupation.
The climate in the
Algarve is known as the best in Europe and Portugal is socially and
